Deze producent is lid van de Vignobles & Signature. Gesproken op Vinexpo met Arnaud Couly-Dutheil, wijnmaker sinds 1997. Deed ervaring op in de hele wereld voordat hij terugkwam in Chinon. De eerste wijn is wit “Blanc de Franc”, een curiositeit. Wordt sinds vijf jaar op de markt gebracht, gemaakt van de cabernet franc. De druiven komen van een perceel dichtbij de vinificatieruimte, zodat de druiven die met de hand zijn geplukt snel geperst kunnen worden. Dit is geen appellatie Chinon, want dan moet het chenin blanc zijn. Dit is dus een Vin de France. Van deze curiositeit worden slechts 6000 flessen gemaakt. De licht strogele wijn heeft een fruitige geur en smaak; veel perzik, witte bloemen en tropisch fruit. De druiven voor deze wijn moeten tijdig worden geplukt om voldoende frisheid te houden. Niet super complex, omdat je het schilcontact mist. Vreemd dat je in een witte wijn dan toch rood fruit proeft. Prima wijn!
Twee procent van de Chinon appellatie is wit van de chenin blanc: 2014 Les Chanteaux. De kleur is licht strogeel, terroir kalkrijk, dat is duidelijk in de wijn te proeven, lichte fruitigheid, gemiddelde concentratie, droge stijl, goede zuurgraad, lange afdronk en meer complexiteit dan de witte Saumur.
Afsluitend 2011 La Baronnie Madeleine, 100 cabernet franc, afkomstig van het plateau met klei en kalk. Helder rood, licht bruintoon, geen houtlagering, zuivere geur, complexe geur, rood fruit, rijpe smaak, fris, zachte tannine, harmonisch, nu goed ontwikkeld, goede afdronk. Mooie wijn.

Founded in 1921, the Couly Dutheil family is owner of prestigious domaine vineyards amongst which the famous Clos de l’Olive & Clos de l’Echo (royal vineyard of King of France). Today, the property is run by Jacques COULY DUTHEIL and his son Arnaud who is recognized (by the wine specialists & press) as one of the most creative & talented young winemakers. With the domaine’s vineyard all grassed through and run according to the rules of “La Lutte Raisonnée ( biological culture methods)”, the estate has placed an increasing emphasis on high foliage (generally trimming the vines to 1.80 m), éclaircissage (to thin out), de-leafing around the bunches to keep the grapes healthy and then picking (mostly by hand) as late as possible to get full phenolic ripeness. Thanks to a unique Chenin Blanc & Cabernet Franc style, Couly Dutheil Loire wines are leader on the French gastronomic restaurant market and the Chinon Clos de l’Echo can be found on virtually all the 3-star Michelin restaurant wine lists in France.
Greatly influenced by the river Loire and its tributaries such as the river Vienne, all of the vineyards benefit from a relatively mild oceanic climate. The confluence of these two rivers is without a doubt the kingdom of the Cabernet Franc, which planted in this region is able to exhibit all the facets of its personality. Each vineyard is different thanks to the soil, and the personal touch of the winemakers who are proud to live in the Valley of kings.
