The first woman to take the helm of the Consorzio Chianti Classico
Florence, 17th November 2017 – Carlotta Gori is the new Director of the Vino Chianti Classico Consortium, placing a woman at the helm of the Gallo Nero for the first time ever. Gori is taking over from Giuseppe Liberatore.
It is still quite uncommon for women to hold top managerial positions in the agricultural and wine sectors, and consortia are no exception. This new appointment of Carlotta Gori raises the number of women leading important consortia to two.
Born in Florence in 1969, married with a daughter, and a degree in Law, Carlotta Gori began her career in the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico about 20 years ago, after completing her university degree. Her career path led her to top managerial positions in legal protection and supervision and institutional relations in the Gallo Nero structure, and she is a member of the AICIG legal group (Italian Association of Geographical Indication Consortia).
In her speech thanking the Chairman of the Consortium, Sergio Zingarelli, and her predecessor Giuseppe Liberatore, Gori said she was excited to lead “a close-knit and interdependent team, young enough to offer enthusiasm and energy but mature enough to guarantee experience and farsightedness”.
“In the last few years,” said the new Consortium Director, “throughout the crucial and strategic phases in Chianti Classico’s history, my role has been one of monitoring and supervision, guaranteeing project feasibility and making sure our decisions follow the regulations. In this context I have witnessed the massive development of the role played by Consortia and more generally, the PDO system, on a national scale. This development has been supported by a system of regulations to which our Consortium has made a considerable contribution, also in technical terms, offering our representatives in public and private institutions experience and functional efficiency”.
“My work in the Consortium,” Carlotta Gori concluded, “began when I was very young, and has enabled me to come into contact across the board with leading public and private institutions in the agricultural and wine-growing sector, and deal with this subject matter – not only and necessarily for wine production, but certainly in concrete and technical terms. For this reason I believe I have useful skills to offer the Board of Directors in future administrative decisions for our Designation”.
