COONAWARRA CABERNET SAUVIGNON TO TAKE ITS PLACE WITH THE WORLD’S BEST

Penfolds 2019 Bin 169 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon to be sold through La Place de Bordeaux

MAGILL ESTATE: SOUTH AUSTRALIA: Following the success of the 2018 vintage, the much-anticipated
2019 vintage of Penfolds Bin 169 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is now being distributed by the historic
global distribution network, La Place de Bordeaux, following its release last month [September 2022].

The new vintage has elicited high praise from many of the world’s leading critics during preview tastings,
generating nine scores over 95 to date. The respected British wine writer, Matthew Jukes, stated “Bin 169 sits
on a world stage with its refinement and sensationally fresh and active tannins”, heralding the 2019 as “a truly
delicious vintage”.1 Nick Stock of JamesSuckling.com commented “This is an impressively bold, smoothly
honed and focused cabernet.”2

Penfolds Bin 169 Cabernet Sauvignon is a contemporary, single regional style based on the best low-yielding
blocks of terra rossa cabernet sauvignon – some of the oldest vinestock material in Coonawarra, South
Australia. The wine combines Penfolds red winemaking tradition with the best fruit expression available. The
fruit selection is rigorous and the wine only made in a favourably warm growing season.

The 2018 vintage was the first Bin 169 wine to be distributed through La Place, with the initial allocation selling
out within the first few months.

Tom King, Managing Director, Penfolds, comments; “We are thrilled that the new vintage of our revered Bin 169
Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon will once again be distributed by La Place de Bordeaux, positioned alongside
some of the finest wines in the world. In its first year, Bin 169 sold to over 170 customers across 30 countries
worldwide and with the 2019 vintage impressing the critics, we’re looking forward to leveraging the negociant
model to make this wonderful wine available to collectors around the globe and building further success in the
year ahead”.

The negociant houses selling Penfolds 2019 Bin 169 are CVBG, Joanne Rare Wines, Duclot, Twins, Ulysse
Cazabonne and Descaves. A launch program through La Place de Bordeaux is now underway where various
buyers will have the opportunity to taste Bin 169 through virtual forums and private gatherings.

On behalf of the negotiants, Mathieu Chadronnier, CEO of CVBG said, “La Place de Bordeaux is renowned as
the distribution epicentre for the world’s finest wines and in its first year, Penfolds Bin 169 has proven to be a
valuable addition to the portfolio, impressing both critics and clients alike. Our clients are looking for wines with
impeccable quality credentials and prestige status and as one of Australia’s most revered wineries – celebrated
for both its history and its innovative spirit – Penfolds more than fits the bill. The 2019 Bin 169 is another truly
great cabernet, with great intensity, distinctive character, and remarkable ageing potential, which La Place de
Bordeaux is proud to represent.”

Bin 169’s first vintage was in 1973, and it was revived in 2008. Its origins are linked to prime Coonawarra
vineyards, including Blocks 10 and 20. All located on classic terra rossa soils. This wine is an alternative to Bin
707 with a strong regional imprint. A sibling to RWT and a twin to Bin 150. Not made in 2011, 2012, 2014,
2015, 2017 and 2020.
