BKWine Tours, a leading wine and gastronomy tour operator, has just launched the fall program for 2017. The fall season includes four destinations to France, Italy, and Portugal. Two new destinations are featured: Piedmont, with wine and truffles, and Alentejo in Portugal. On the program are also two great classics: Bordeaux and the Douro Valley. The fall travel program has just been released by BKWine, including two new wine region destinations:

The first new destination is Piedmont, the famous wine region in northern Italy that produces iconic wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco. These are among the most sought after wines in all of Italy. The region is also famous for the white truffle, which will be amply featured on the tour, with both a special truffle lunch and a visit to the exclusive truffles market in Alba. (Tour dates: October 18-22, price 1780 euro.)

The other new destination is Alentejo in Portugal, that is located a little bit east of Lisbon, the capital. This wine region has over a few decades rapidly progressed to become Portugal’s biggest wine producing region, thanks to many dynamic and innovative wine producers and to substantial investments in vineyards and wineries. Today it is one on the most dynamic wine regions in Portugal. Alentejo also has vast cork oak forests and, somewhat surprisingly, very well preserved Roman temples. (Tour dates: October 25-29, price 1300 euro.)

The other wine and gourmet tour destinations are classic wine regions regularly featured on the BKWine program: Bordeaux with its fairy-tale chateaux and world famous grand cru wines made mainly from cabernet sauvignon and merlot. (Tour dates: September 27 – October 1, price 1590 euro.) The Douro Valley in northern Portugal, that is perhaps the most visually spectacular of all wine regions, with its winding river and neck-breakingly steep vineyard slopes. Few wine regions can compete with the beauty of this landscape that today produces both fortified wines (Port) and table wines of world class. (Tour dates: October 18-22, price 1300 euro.)

All tours extend over four nights, Wednesday to Sunday, and include several winery visits, wine tastings and gourmet meals. The tours are guided by an expert wine guide from BKWine or sometimes by one of the founders of BKWine themselves, Britt and Per Karlsson

Britt Karlsson comments: “our tours take the guests behind the scenes to show the real world of wine, not just to showy tasting rooms. We meet and discuss with the winemakers, walk around the vineyards and in the wineries, as well as taste outstanding wines. But we also very much feature the gastronomy. The meals on the tours are often of star-chef quality and highlight each region’s food traditions.” Britt also underlines another aspect of the tours: “we are not only tour operators but also internationally recognised wine journalists and authors. Many wine producers know us through our books or articles, or personally. Some normally do not receive visitors but open their doors for us, so our tour guest will get very special reception on the wine farms we visit, very different from other tour operators.”
